In the real world, not the Tom Cruise, one-handed pivoting stoppie, while shooting at the bad guys world; if you manage to pull out a gun to shoot out the tires of the bad guys, he's just going to run your ass over.
In which case the coroner is just going to prying your gun out of your cold dead hands.
This whole subject is stupid.

i dont feel we should have to carry to protect ourselves, now if your hunting in the rockies, sure, carry. if your riding a motorcycle or walking down the street, whats the point? Im a pretty conservative guy, i live in the country, i have lots of guns, but carrying everyday to me just seems like a huge burden and the risk of having to use it and it be my fault out weighs the chance of needing it for protection.

Sometimes circumstances dictate what we need to do. So what's basically different between your grizzly bear and a city dweller's gangsta gang-banger lookin' for crack money? Either one can kill you. In fact, it's probably statistically safer to be in the rockies without a gun than in the ghetto. We don't have nearly as many bear encounters as we have crime related shootings.
I stay out of the really bad areas for obvious reasons. That improves the odds considerably, and there's nothing there I need, anyway.

jeez dude, READ it, then comment. You guys have been watching WAY way too many movies. The self defence thing only holds up in your house.
If you think you can just pull out a gun in a public place and shoot someone cause they're "bothering you" you got some serious screws loose.
The funny thing is that this thread is even being taken seriously. Elton is a criminal lawyer and even with his professional opinion you STILL think it's legal to do this.
Let me guess, you studied at the Matlock legal academy

I don't carry while riding. Only because the last thing I want is my shirt coming up and someone seeing my Glock in my pants and calling the cops who would likely overreact to that type of situation.

I'd just like to add your probably more likely to crash the bike, fall on your gun, and smash your ribs (shoulder holster) or shatter your hip (waist holster) than actually need to defend yourself with the gun on your bike.
Just my $0.02. Carry on (pun intended).
PS- some genius apparently used the whole "car is a weapon" logic down in my neck of the woods recently:

I do believe he's facing attempted murder charges if/when they catch him.

I beleave this to be true. I do not live in the Griz part of the state, and am never suprised when hikers get mauld sleeping in tents. When I do go to griz country, I am on edge, and had a few run ins. If you shoot one, you can be in as much shit as shooting a crackhead. You better be able to prove you were afraid for your life.
When we took a wrong turn going through Chicago and San Fran, I was scarred. Same with the neighborhood we stayed in in Grand Rapids. Same can be said for the part of Melbourne we rode through. I was glad it was 6am.
Guess that why I live in a small town, or is it becauce I live in a small town?

Why should I have a fear of anything? If there's a higher power and He decides He wants me, He's going to take me anyway. And if there isn't, then I'll ride it all the way in.

Even though I understand that you are irratated with the fact that people have no regard for motorcyclists. The gun idea really is not a solution to the problem. It is more of adding to the problem. You shoot car, car loses control, innocent family driving to dinner gets seriously or killed from out of control car hitting them. I have had my share of people intentionally try to kill me on my bike cause they hate the priveleges that we get (white lining, less gas consumption, etc.). A few are missing mirrors and some had to get bodywork done. Not that this was mature, right, or problem solving. I did get a sense of relief knowing that he or she would have to shell out money. Just to show what the gun idea could bring about:
